FREEMARKETS SIGNS DEAL WITH INDIA'S TATA ENGINEERING & LOCOMOTIVE

BOMBAY - Nasdaq-listed FreeMarkets Incorporated, a provider of e-sourcing software, has signed a new long-term agreement with India's Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company (BSE:TELC).

Under the terms of the agreement, Tata Engineering will use FreeMarkets' e-sourcing software, including its FullSource offering and QuickSource application, to source various goods for its global operations.

DENDRITE REPORTS CONTINUED EXPANSION OF CHINA OPERATIONS

BEIJING - The Nasdaq-listed Dendrite has reported that its pharmaceutical support operations in China have continued to expand. Dendrite also announced that it recently completed a rollout of its Medicheck system for Bayer China.

Enabling drug companies to maximize the productivity and effectiveness of their sales forces, Medicheck is a version of Dendrite's WebForce sales technology product suite designed for the specific requirements of pharmaceutical companies conducting business in China.

AUSTRALIA'S PBL CHOOSES STARGAMES AS SUPPLIER FOR NET CASINO

MELBOURNE - Kerry Packer's Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd (ASX:PBL) (PBL) has picked gaming software group Stargames as a supplier to its Vanuatu-based internet casino site CrownGames.

Under the deal Stargames will supply games already developed for its Australian gaming machine sales and develop exclusive new games for PBL.

SINGTEL EXPANDS ITS MANAGED HOSTING SERVICES TO THAILAND

SINGAPORE - Singapore Telecom (SGX:TELE) said it has teamed up with Loxinfo IDC, a leading player in Thailand's Internet and data center business to provide managed hosting services (MHS).

These services enable corporate users, Internet service and content providers in Thailand and elsewhere to outsource their entire IT networks and house their mission critical equipment in data centers set up by Loxinfo IDC in Thailand or SingTel's data centers in other key cities in the Asia Pacific.

PHILIPPINES SEES 30 PCT FALL IN SOFTWARE PIRACY OVER 5 YEARS

MANILA - There was a 30 per cent drop in software piracy in the last five years and for the year 2000 it stands at 61 per cent.

This was disclosed by Ronald Chua, Business Software Alliance (BSA) vice president for the Philippines who said, "this means that six out of 10 computers are installed with pirated software which is still too high and equivalent to hundreds of millions of dollars worth of losses for software companies each year."

SOFTWARE MAKER CATUITY SECURES KEY PATENT IN US

SYDNEY - A key patent has been secured in the US by loyalty software maker Catuity Inc (ASX:CAT).

Shares in the firm rose 16 per cent today, after the company announced it had secured the patent.

SYSTEM PROVIDERS SEE POTENTIAL OF ERP MARKET IN TAIWAN

TAIPEI - While increasing numbers of businesses in Taiwan have applied commercial software and enterprise management systems, software and systems providers in Taiwan are doubling their efforts to explore the domestic market, especially among small- and medium-sized businesses, according to an industrial source.

A spokesman of the Data Systems Corp. specializing in enterprise resource planning (ERP) said Saturday that ERP has focused attention of visitors to the 2002 Spring Multi-media Computer Show sponsored by the Taipei Computer Exhibition at the Taipei World Trade Center exhibition hall from Feb. 6-10.

INDIAN IT MARKET TO GROW TO US$5.3 BLN IN 2002: IDC

MUMBAI - With prospects of recovery in demand for information technology products and services from July this year, the Indian IT market is expected to grow by seven per cent to touch Rs 256.68 billion (US$5.27 billion) for the year 2002, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

"Recovery is expected from the third quarter of this year when the corporate and consumer confidence starts improving followed by a strong revival in 2003", IDC India managing director Pradip Gupta said addressing NASSCOM 2002 here Friday.

KOREA'S DACOM SEES 3,388 PCT SURGE IN 2001 OPERATING PROFIT

SEOUL - Dacom said Friday that its operating profit last year surged 3,388 per cent year-on-year to 87.2 billion won (US$66.3 million).

Sales, however, edged up only 1 per cent to 997.1 billion won (US$758.7 million) and the company incurred an ordinary loss of 63.3 billion won and net loss of 68.8 billion won.
